Scioto County, Ohio Probate Death Records
Volume I, 1867 - 1880
The records listed here were transcribed from microfilm which is housed in the Local History Department of the Portsmouth Public Library. The film also contains Volume 0, 1856 - 1858; Volume 2, 1880 - 1903; and Volume 3, 1903 - 1908.
Every attempt was made to correctly transcribe the information. When there was a question about an item, other people were consulted. Some areas of the film were damaged and unreadable. This information is indicated in parenthesis.
In many cases, the spelling of names differed from page to page. For example, a child's last name was spelled differently from his/her parents' last name. On occasion, a husband's last name differed from his wife's last name. The records were transcribed as written.
If an item was too long to fit inside the box, it was noted with an asterisk (*), and it is spelled in its entirety at the bottom of the page.
Records #404 - #413 were omitted from the original film. There are two records #520. There was no record #535.
There are 2 pages of information per record. The record starts with an odd number. The second page of the same record is on an even number. For example, page 1 contains the: Date, Record Number, Deceased's Name, Death Date, Marital Status, Age, Place of Death, Place of Birth. The record continues on Page 2 which lists: Occupation, Parent's Names, Color, Cause of Death, Place of Residence, By Whom Reported.
