Columbus, Ohio, May 23 -Representative George B. Nye, of Pike county who is a doctor at Waverly, was placed on trial today before Criminal Judge Kinkead, on the specific charge of soliciting a bribe of $500 from State Printer Edward A. Crawford to vote for the Kimball bill, which gerrmandered common pleas judicial districts.
The bill was aimed at Judge A. Z Blair, of Scioto county, who was instrumental in exposing the wholesale frauds and vote buying in Adams and Scioto counties.
Two Other Indictments
Nye is under indictment on two other charges of soliciting bribes and is the
first of the half dozen or more members of the Ohio legislature to be placed
on trial.
The case will be bitterly fought and it is not expected that it will be completed
by the end of the week. Attorney General Hogan is assisting Prosecutting Attorney
Turner in the case. The bribery trials of Sergeant at arms Rodney Diegel and
Senator Andrews have been set for Thursday and of Representative Evans for
Friday Over forty witnesses have been summoned in the Nye case, including Judge
Blair and Detective Harrison it is not ecpected that the jury will be selected
today.
