Attorneys Holding the Bag - Portsmouth, O., Sept. 28

Abe Smith, a merchant tailor of this city, sometime ago filed suit against his brother-in-law, Simon Labold, to recover $4,000 in amount of a one-day note given by Labold for money received in a settlement between Smith and his wife, Labold's sister, the pair having separated.  Later he sued Labold for $10,000 for alienating his wife's affections.  Friday, Labold, who is vice-president of the First National Bank paid Smith $?,000* (film is difficult to read) in settlement of the first claim, the remainder being by agreement turned over to Smith's wife as dower.  Smith left town this morning and his attorneys are stuck for their fees and court costs.
