Local Solider Writes to Times ---
He is stationed at Fort Alcatraz, California---

The Times has received a letter from Ora E. Clark, private in Co. E. Thirteenth infantry, in which he sends his regards to his friends in Portsmouth. He is stationed at a fort on Alcatraz island. This is also a military prison and Clark says there are from 200 to 500 solider convicts there all of the time. Many of them are serving from three to five years for offenses that would be deemed petty in a justice court in evil life.
Clark has been at Alcatraz a year and says that he enjoys the life there although the person who thinks solider life is all play is very much mistaken.
