A Farmer Is Fatally Beaten at Home and Robbed.

Portsmouth, O., Oct. 2. - At midnight 12 masked men broke into the farmhouse occupied by Mrs. Hannah Gallagher, 80; her son George; her two brothers, George and Will Mead, and a hired girl and man.  The Meads are wealthy.  Revolvers were fired in the air by the robbers and the inmates ordered to stay in bed.  George Gallagher disobeyed and was fatally beaten by four of the men.  A search of the premises followed and $500 was secured.  After an attempt to fire the house, the desperadoes fled.  The scene of the outrage is a dozen miles from this city.
