PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (UP) - Two Portsmouth women decided today to attend
church for a year rather than spend 30 days in the Scioto County jail. Judge
Kenneth Cranston ruled yesterday that Louise Jearns, 19, and Plura Stiltner,
29, could escape the jail term by spending the next 52 Sundays in the church
of their choice. They had been convicted of assault and battery on each
other.
