William Pennywick Beaten at Auction

Portsmouth, Oh., Aug. 23 -- (INS) --  Beaten over the head with a fence standard at a sheriff's sale.  William Pennywick, 70, today was believed dying in a hospital here.

His alleged assailant, William Jack, 50, was held in the Adams-co jail at West Union, near here, where the incident occurred.

Jack was said to have attacked Pennywick as the latter bid on articles of furnishings of Jack's home which were being sold at a sheriff's sale.  Pennywick had brought  about the sale by foreclosure of a mortgage.

According to police, Jack seized a fence standard and hit Pennywick over the head when the latter began bidding on the articles.
