CCC Dice Game Ends Fatally At Portsmouth

Portsmouth, OH March 4 -- (AP) A dice game at a civil conservation Camp Roosevelt, on Turkey creek, ended fatally today, Ernest Gaskin, 39, of Steubenville died from concussion caused when he was struck over the head by a shovel.
Sheriff Arthur Oakes arrested Edward S. Gray, 33, of New Orleans, for investigation. Oakes said Gray struck Gaskin following an argument over money. The sheriff said manslaughter charges probably will be filed.
Will Stevenson, 42, another CCC enrollee, was in a hospital suffering from gunshot wounds suffered in a shooting scrape Sunday night. Frank Carter, 32, surrendered voluntarily to police who said they had not determined the cause of the shooting.
