Farmer Found Dead With His Head Battered

Portsmouth, O - Dec. 10--The body of Mike McClave, 54, the head battered with a sharpe instrument, was found in the barn an the AI Underwood farm where he lived alone, one fourth mile south of Bethel, Pike-co., today.
Pearl Williams, a neighbor, found the body when he came to McClave's place to help butcher. There was evidence of a struggle near the house and the tracks in the snow showed the body had been dragged to the barn.
Sheriff John Parker said there was no evidence of an attempted robbery and he was unable to ascribe a motive for the killing. McClave came here last spring from Ashland, Ky.
The instrument of death was not found near the scene.
