Portsmouth, O. Jan 1 - Andy Crowe is believed to hold a "long distance" office holding record.
Crowe, now 69 years old, has been a trustee of Rush-tp for 40 years, and in addition to his long service, is the oldest official in Scioto-co.
Long terms as trustees seem to be the fashion in Rush-tp.  Albert Colley recently was elected to his tenth term, and began his nineteenth year of service today.  Thomas McClure entered upon his ninth year of service at the same time.
Crowe is a native of Jackson-co, and a few years after his birth his parents moved to Rush-tp, settling on a farm near the Lucasville-Western-rd.
When Crowe came here, the only road in the township was what was known as " The Road Around the Flag, a dirt trail in poor condition that crossed the Scioto river at the edge of portsmouth, follows the stream on the west side Lucasville, dropping back to portsmouth over what is now state route 23.
Buggies had not "come in" then, and travel was mostly by horseback or wagon.
Crowe recalls that in 1887 only 120 votes were cast in the township. Now there are more than 800 voters living in the territory. Beside being a trustee for 40 years, Crowe has served as treasurer and assessor of taxes.  He relates, years back, he and Clay Knowles were tied in an election for the township. Both wanted the job, so they drew straws and Crowe won. That was the nearest he ever come o being defeated for office.
