Teacher is Slain by Inmate at Lucasville

LUCASVILLE (AP) -- A teacher at the state's maximum security prison died after an inmate slashed her throat in a restroom, a spokeswoman for the state's prison system said.

Beverly Taylor, 32, of Portsmouth, was attacked with a piece of metal fashioned into a knife after entering the restroom near the learning center of the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility on Thursday monring, said Mary Helen Van Dyke.  An inmate apparently followed Taylor into the restroom.

Van Dyke said Eddie Vaughn, 48, was being held in isolation as a result of the attack.  Vaughn was serving a life sentence from Summit County on charges including aggravated murder.  The State Highway Patrol was investigating.
