Struck a Sink Hole - Four were drowned while attempting to ford a river
Portsmouth, O., August 25
Last night, William Barrett, Ex-County Commissioner, his wife and three children, while riding in a spring wagon attempted to ford the Scioto river, twelve miles north of here. The team struck a sink hole and all the occupants of the wagon were drowned, except a twelve-year-old boy, who managed to get ashore.
