Ex-Official of Selby Shoe Dies in Portsmouth

Columbus, Ohio (AP)-- Calvin Clarke, 66, former chairman of the board of the old Selby Shoe Co. in Portsmouth, died Sunday in Univerisity Hospital here. Friends said he had suffered from a heart condition for several years. Clarke, who once worked for the Internal Revenue Bureau in Washington, was a noted federal tax expert. Reported to be one of the largest real estate owners in Portsmouth, he was president of numerous firms including the Valley Supply Co., and electrical and hard ware concern, and the Bkluemont Corp., an insurance firm. He owned large tracts of coal and timber land in Kentucky.
