About 200 laborers at the plant of the Portsmouth Steel company went out on a strike. They were receiving $1.30 per day and demanded $1.50. The company attempted to effect a compromise by giving the laborers 10 per cent increase, but they refused to accept. The mill is idle as the result of the strike.
