Hartford City Redpath Official Takes Own Life

PORTSMOUTH, O., July 5. - Christian P. Messner, superintendent of the five day advance men of the Redpath chautauqua bureau, ended his life today by jumping between two cars of a Norfolk & Western freight train. The man's left leg was severed from his body and death was instantaneous. No reason was assigned for the suicide.
In the dead man's coat was found a note asking that an undertaking firm of Hartford City, Ind.,his home, and his father, be notified. Messner's headquarters were in Columbus, O.
