Huge Fill Collapses After Heavy Rains----Fireman Scalded to Death in Engine Cab.

Portsmouth, O Jan. 11---J. G. Callahan, Russell, Ky., fireman was killed; S. B. Caldwell, brakeman, Chinnville, Ky, and Louis K. Perry, engineer, Russell Ky, were badly injured and scalded when the engine, tender and three coal cars of extra west bound freight No. 822 on the Chesapeake and Ohio Northern plunged down a 100 foot embankment, one and a half miles north of Sciotoville early this morning.

Callahan was caught in the cab of the engine and was scalded to death. The other two men jumped. The engine rolled over several times and landed upside down. Collapse of a huge fill, weakened by heavy rains, was given as the cause of the accident. Traffic on the line will probably be tied up all day. Wrecking crews from Silver Grove, Ky, and Russell, Ky were rushed to the scene.
