A Minford man and Sergeant in the Ohio National
Guard was featured in the London Daily Times when a media correspondent
traveled with his troop carrying supplies to the coalition from Kuwait
across Iraq. 1st Sgt. William Dillon of Minford, was leading the 1487th
Transportation Company of Ohio's National Guard in a convoy, taking ammunition,
food, fuel, medical supplies and millions of gallons of water to camp Anaconda
on the far side of Baghdad.
The correspondent told his story of traveling with Dillon in an "Iron Camel"
along 400 miles of one of the world's most dangerous roads, highlighting
the constant insurgency threat. At that time, June of this year, the 75
men and 25 women of the 1487th had completed more than 633,000 mission
miles since their arrival in February.
Dillon is a 1987 graduate of Minford High School and a graduate of Shawnee
State University. At the time he was activated, he was an Activities Therapy
