Minford GI Helps Build New Radio
"Missing Link"
A Minford soldier has been credited with assisting in constructing what the Army calls " the missing link" in the field communciations.

Spec. 5 John J. Fell, Jr. 20, a son of Mr. and Mrs. John J. Fell of Minford Rt. 2, with army in Stuttgart, Germany, has helped design and construct a two-set radio complex which gathers the transmissions around the curvature of the earth and doubles what was once a limited direct-line radio signal.

The two-set radio complex called the "Jayhawk Satellite," was installed in a Beaver AU-6 type aircraft by Avironics Repairman Fell.

The New Communications system was proved a success in the field during the army's recent Command Post Exercise in Germany.

Having a radio complex in the air that can receive and re-transmit radio signals over a sight transmissions and has had the same capabilities as four or five ground stations, depending on the situation, Army authorities said.

Fell, a 1964 graduate of Minford High School, enlisted a the Army recruiting office here soon after graduation.

He attended electronics school at Ft. Gordon, Ga, before assignment to Germany.
