The following was taken from The Portsmouth Times, Tuesday, April 10, 1945, p. 2.
Pfc. Herman B. Spradling, of Madison, West Virginia, brother of Mrs. C. F. Morton, 1108 18th Street, was killed in Germany March 27 while serving with a unit of the army engineers.
Pfc. Spradling was a son of the late Rev. and Mrs. H. A. Spradling of Madison, West Virginia were former residents of Sciotoville. The son attended school in Sciotoville and finished his education in Madison.
He entered the service in November 1943 and went overseas in 1944. He attended basic training at Ft. Belvair in Virginia.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. EuniceSpradling, and the following brothers and sisters: C. S. Spradlign of Durham North Carolina, James Spraling of Wheeling, T. E. Spradling of Charleston, Mrs. Horton, Mrs. V. B. Martin of Huntington, Mrs. H. G. Sheete of Beckley, West Virginia, Mrs. B. L. Gibson of Portsmouth, Virginia, and half-brother E. S. Deck of Madison.
