Drug Abuse Resistance Education
D.A.R.E. stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education. It is a 15 week program in which a Scioto County deputy comes to our school once a week and works with our 6th grade students. The officer discusses how students can respond to anyone asking them to participate in drinking alcohol or using drugs. The officer also gives suggestions on how to get out of potentially violent situations. The students are given the tools to be able to survive on the streets. A graduation is held at the end of the year and the students receive a DARE shirt.
The deputy for DARE this year is Deputy Shawn Sparks. He has been a deputy for about 5 years, and this is his first year as a DARE officer. He is so good with the kids. He gets so close to them to make sure they know that he truly cares about them and wants only the best for them. He is very honest and open with the students.Deputy Shawn Sparks
