Ohio Model United Nations

Minford Middle School competed in Jr. Ohio Model United Nations on February 7, 8, and 9. Ohio Model United Nations is a mock United Nations, where students from all over Ohio pick a nation and write a resolution an a problem in that country. They debate on other nations, as well as theirs. The students left at 2 p.m. on the February 7, and went to Columbus, where the competition was held. The students spent Friday and Saturday presenting their resolutions, and debating. On Saturday night, they took part in an International Summit, where the selected ones presented speeches to run for an office. After the summit, they celebrated the end of the weekend with a dance. On Sunday, the awards banquet was held. Candace Allen won Outstanding Delegate. Kyle Tennant won First Place in the World Problem Solving Contest and Outstanding Leader. The country of Liechtenstein (Kyle Tennant, Tayler Baker, Sarah Johnson) won Outstanding Resolution. The offices were also chosen. Ashely Hayward and Sarah Johnson won Vice President of Council Session and Kyle Tennant won Vice President of General Assembly! The students that took part in OMUN were: Kayla Burke, Candace Allen, Brittany Walk, Letha Johnson, Megan Fyffe, Devan Parker, Ashley Hayward, Kyle Tennent, Tayler Baker, and Sarah Johnson!

    Nineteen students in junior and senior high school visited Washington, D.C. for three days. The students visited with the Deputy Ambassador of Ethiopia and discussed the situation with Iraq as well as other world issues. The students visited with the Ambassador of Iceland as well. Eighteen sites were visited while the students were in D.C. The sites included: Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Veteran's Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Washington Monument, U.S. Holocaust National Museum, 4 Smithsonian Museums, and much more. The students rode the city bus as well as rode the underground metro daily to experience life in D.C. to the fullest. The ate at places such as "America" and "The Hard Rock Cafe" near Ford's Theatre.
