PORTSMOUTH, O., July 26.--Some one drove an iron wedge into a N. & W. switch in the east end Wednesday, but the engineer saw the obstacle just in time to stop the train, a heavy passenger. The police have been unable to fix the responsibility of the attempt to wreck the train.
