World War II 
Memorial Fund

We were able to raise $5,375.00 with your donations for the
National WWII Memorial to be build in Washington, D.C.
We are proud of our veterans, and we want everyone to honor them.

We want to thank Mrs. Haney for organizing the project.
Super Job!
   This year the middle school service project was the World War II Memorial Fund.  The World War II Memorial will be built in Washington D.C.  The federal government has allocated space around the Reflecting Pool as the site for the memorial.
A Few Good Men

We had a writing contest for the 4th, 5th & 6th graders.

The winner of the poem was Billy Allard, and
the winner of the essay was Kurtis Cassady.


Kasie McCreary, Colin Johnson, Kurtis Cassady, Heidi Morgan, Sarah Hemminger, Alexis Mault, Jeremy Silcott, Allison Williams, Carl Gibson, and Elizabeth Cartee were all honored at our ceremony.

Please include the following information:  1. Name of Veteran, 2. Branch of Military (if known),  3. Theater of Operations (if known),  4. Living or Deceased, and  5. present address.

Our goal was to raise $5,000.00 by May 2000.
We had different types of fund raisers each month.


Our fund-raising activity for October was a classroom "Penny Drive".
We were able to raise $1,133.43!

Our November fund-raising activities were the classroom "Penny Drive" by amount, by weight and a "Walk-a-thon" during gym classes. (Our thanks to Mr. Baker and Ms. Miller)
We were able to raise $1,400.00.

Our December fund-raising activity was an individual "Penny Drive". A gift certificate was awarded for a large pizza and two drinks for the two students who brings in the most pennies.

A big thank you to Joe Nelson, Linda Holbrook, Martha Oberley,
Cindy McCreary, and Melissa Milan who sponsored February WW II bake sales.
We encourage other teachers to have bake sales for the fund.
Bake sales are an easy way to make money.


March Winners
309.00 was deposited in the World War II Fund for the month of
March.  Mrs. Havens' class turned in the most money for the
month from proceeds earned through their quilt raffle.

April Winners
Our 4th grade classes raffled an Easter Basket
during the month of April and raised $225.00.



May
Cindy McCreary's 5th grade class wrote business letters to area
merchants asking for donations.  So far they have received over $300.00.  Donations were made by the following businesses: Minford Retirement Center, Minford Dairy Bar, Deb's Guys and Gals, Minford Pharmacy, Frowine Hardware, Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home, Minford Muffler, DeMexican Pizzeria, and Minford Telephone.

The 4th & 5th grade held a dance.
Piketon Vocational School loaned us their dunking machine. Coriell Brothers, Pepsi, Lay's Potato Chips, and WZIO donated their products and time.
